In an effort to promote volunteerism and civic awareness, Trafalgar supports a program of community service in order to encourage our students to be sensitive to the world around them. The school requires all Secondary III-V students to spend a minimum of 15 hours per year in the service of a recognized community or service organization. Details of this programme, under the supervision of the Student Life Coordinator, are given in the Community Service record book (or “Passport”) distributed in September. Community Service is also the basis of a credit course and must be completed to fulfill the requirements for a Trafalgar Certificate. Girls in Secondary I-II have no formal service requirement, but will have opportunities throughout the year to volunteer their time, talent, and energy.

Through their involvement in the program Traf students gain a sense of civic and moral responsibility. This program helps the students learn self-discipline and time management but also encourages them to show initiative and reflect on their own particular strengths. In fact, some of our students go beyond the fifteen hours required and become volunteers at various organizations for the whole year.

More generally, the school actively supports worthwhile causes and organizations, including the Mackay Centre, Montreal Oral School, Girls for the Cure walk, holiday food baskets, Montreal Children’s Hospital, and N.D.G. Food Bank.
