POWERFUL MEETUP WITH CANADIAN YOUTH

On Monday May 10th, Head Girl Maya Hillcoat joined a group of students from schools across the country in an online forum organized by the Centre for Global Education called: Power of Youth: Fostering Health, Well-Being, and Unity in Canadian Communities.

This is the third time that Traf students have participated in a Taking it Global forum, but the first where the entire school joined in watching it unfold. Our students and staff were so proud to see Maya speaking about her experiences in building community at Traf, and in extending that community through opportunities such as World School.

They also heard from other young people who had spearheaded incredible initiatives, including three members of the Gender & Sexuality Alliance group at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé in Winnipeg who helped to develop a handbook (called the Pride Guide)  that tackles gender-based violence and looks at ways of developing safe and welcoming environments in schools.

Throughout the forum, The Honourable Bardish Chagger--Canada’s Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth--remarked on the participants’ energy and commitment, and offered suggestions for building on their achievements.

Watch the live-stream recording to be inspired for our future!
