Physical Education & Athletics at Trafalgar: Confidence in Motion
At Trafalgar, movement is more than physical—it's transformational. Whether students are training for competition, learning a new sport, or developing lifelong habits of wellness, our Physical Education and Athletics program is rooted in empowerment, inclusion, and growth.
Here, we believe that every student—regardless of skill level—deserves the chance to discover what her body can do, how to challenge herself, and how movement can support her well-being, resilience, and joy.
Learning Through Movement
Our Physical Education classes are inquiry-based and student-centered. Lessons often begin with a question:
What does it mean to be strong?
How can we work better as a team?
What kind of movement helps me feel calm and focused?
Through activities ranging from yoga and dance to basketball and flag football, students explore how their bodies move and how physical activity connects to mental and emotional health. They learn to set personal goals, reflect on progress, and develop confidence not only as athletes, but as leaders, collaborators, and problem-solvers.
A Program That Evolves With Our Students
Our curriculum grows with the girls. In Junior School, students build fundamental movement skills through play, exploration, and teamwork. As they move into Senior School, the program expands to include personal fitness planning, sport-specific training, and deeper conversations about health, nutrition, and performance.
Students also explore topics like:
The science of the body in motion
The role of sports in culture and identity
Mental health and mindfulness in athletics
The ethics of competition and leadership
Each unit is designed to meet students where they are—and take them somewhere new.
Wellness for Life
Physical education at Trafalgar goes far beyond the gym. It’s about developing self-awareness, managing stress, building routines, and embracing wellness as a lifelong journey. Students leave with the knowledge and motivation to care for their physical and mental health throughout their lives.
At Trafalgar, every girl is encouraged to move with confidence, compete with courage, and lead with strength—from the gym floor to the playing field and beyond.
Our Juvi basketball team gave it their all in the finals, playing with determination, sportsmanship, and incredible teamwork. It was a hard-fought and close game, but in the end, they fell 35-31 to Bialik. Despite the loss, we couldn’t be prouder of the effort, heart, and resilience these girls showed on the court. Congratulations on a fantastic season!

The Juvenile Girls team participated in the Montreal Independent Schools tournament on January 17th-18th. This annual tournament is open to teams of all levels. As a result, our players pushed through some very challenging games against teams with multiple Triple A players -especially on Friday afternoon. This was a great opportunity for our girls to learn and develop. Traf fought hard and never gave up and adapted strategies accordingly throughout the tournament. We did manage to win our final game on Saturday against The Study. Congrats to Isabella B (Sec IV) who was awarded team MVP! The Juvi team is off to Bishops for more high-level match-ups this coming weekend. Good luck, girls!
The Juvi team had a nail-biting game on Monday against Laurier Macdonald. Traf rallied from behind, tied the score and pushed the game into overtime. Our girls won 37-35 (in overtime) bringing the audience of Traf staff and parents to their feet in celebration. Congratulations to all the players for their never-give-up attitude and incredible hussle out there. We wish them the best of luck this weekend at the MIS tournament.

The Juvenile volleyball team played some of their best volleyball this season in their quarterfinal playoff game this past Tuesday. Unfortunately, we just ran out of steam in the best 2 out of 3 match against Lakeside Academy, falling 25-17, 22-24, and 8-15. Congratulations to everyone for their improvement and hard work throughout the season! Special congratulations to our graduating players: Anne-Sophie, Adrienne, Lilah, Sophie, Jastina, and Aidan.
This week, our Bantam Football team’s season came to an end after a quarter-final loss in what was their best game of the season. The amount of learning, improvement, and growth that members of the team experienced in our six-week season was astounding. To illustrate this, in our first game of the season on May 2nd, we managed to complete one pass in our win against The Study (25-0), while in our quarter final game on Tuesday, our offence marched up the field with a 12-play drive that finished with a pass in the end-zone to score.
Both Ms. Loupelle and Mr. Fuoco are extremely proud of every member of the team, most of whom had never played flag football before, and we are eager and excited to work with these athletes again next year to continue improving on the football field! Great work out there, Bantam Tigers!
Congratulations to our tennis team for participating in the GMAA Tennis Tournament last Friday. Our team was made up of girls from Secondary 1 to 5 and were participating in a juvenile category. Although there was some tough competition, our players worked hard and Sofia placed 4th in the tournament!
This past Thursday was the GMAA Halo Road Race event. All our runners did a tremendous job in their runs! We had 4 out of our 7 runners place in the top 8 of their category. Way to go Traf!
We had 2 games this week! On Tuesday, we played against St-Georges and won 28-0. Coach Sam remarked that everyone contributed to the win but advised his team to be prepared to run faster against Thursday’s opponents, a very strong team. At Thursday’s game, our team did run fast, and took the lead for a while, but ended up losing 18-7 against Vincent Massey. It was a cold and rainy game but that did not stop our girls from trying their best until the last minute.
Our track and field team enjoyed a beautiful sunny day at the GMAA Track and Field Championships on Tuesday. Our athletes performed very well in their events. Our cadet 4 x 100m relay team (Finley, Tatiana, Léla, and Quinn) placed 5th in their race!
Congratulations to the athletes who placed top 6 in their events:
Our team won against The Study on Wednesday, 25-0. This first game of the season (and first game ever for almost the whole team) was a fantastic start to the season. We had a strong showing both offensively and defensively and we look forward to continuing to learn and improve as the season goes!
The Juvenile team had another great game Wednesday, beating The Study 47-8. Coach Sam remarked that the team was very strong in all aspects of the game: offence, defence, kick off and kick off return. Looking forward to the next two games next week!
