These Personal Development courses are offered to Sec 4 students as part of their option choices. Students may select one of the two courses to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and strengthen leadership and personal growth.

Community Cooking

Cook with purpose.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced cook, Community Cooking invites you to explore the role of food in our lives while making a difference in the community.
Course Highlights
  • Hands-on cooking and baking practice
  • Food and kitchen safety essentials
  • Exploration of food security and social issues
  • Participation in community-focused projects
Assessment
  • In-class participation, skill development, and clean-up
  • Homework: reflections, cooking/baking tasks, etc.
  • One major project in Term 3

Outdoor Education

Why Choose This Course

Develop teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills while achieving personal goals and learning to motivate and guide others.

Lead through movement.

In Secondary IV, students take part in Outdoor Education, a course that builds confidence, collaboration, and a strong sense of responsibility through outdoor experiences. Whether planning and leading a canoe-camping trip, hiking, skiing, or working on environmental projects, students learn to take initiative, solve problems, and support their peers. The course encourages resilience, environmental awareness, and leadership in action—skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Course Highlights
  • Practice and explore leadership roles in sport and outdoor activities
  • Design and teach a physical education or outdoor skills lesson
  • Plan and run a class tournament or outdoor challenge
  • Complete a SMART Goal Project on a personal fitness or outdoor leadership goal
